Challenger Kayak

Yesterday I spent a couple of hours in a kayak.

It was down in Coal Creek at Gross Reservoir up in the mountains of Colorado.

I’d never been in one before and this was a two person kayak with me in front and my friend in back.

It was wonderful to be on the water paddling so calmly along.

My friend said, “You’ve manifested a great day.” He goes out on the lake a lot and he’d never seen it so calm with no wind and all peaceful like it was on this day.

I’d watch the water ripple while sitting there in the front of the boat like I was. The little waves traveled and spread over the reservoir with the sun reflecting off them in white sparking specs.

I wished that I had a 4K HD Camera latched to the front of the kayak to video it all, but maybe in the future I can do that.

We got to one point where the creek runs down the rocky mountain and empties out into the lake, just like that. I had to get out of the boat and climb up the creek to go wade in it. The water was freezing!

You’re not supposed to swim in the reservoir because you could get fined, but people do it anyway and there was even a cliff to jump off of, but we didn’t do that.

Being in the kayak with my friend was a nice experience and we talked and laughed for hours and even had a picnic.

If you get a chance to be in the water this summer on a craft like this go do it without thinking twice.

I got a big bad sunburn on my thighs because I just wasn’t thinking about sunscreen. Oops!

One style of kayak I saw a lot of was a blow up one called a “Challenger.”  It was a nifty little kayak lots of people had and were using solo.

Then there was one man who showed up with his dog and took an air pump out to blow up his two-seater, a green “Challenger K2”. What a lucky dog to have such a great owner (and no the dog did not have dog sunglasses on).

If you like water sports and are in the market for a kayak check out the Challenger as a possible buy.  It runs from $69 and up.
